Business Leaders Summit
ALLIES hosted a Summit for business leaders from eight cities across Canada. At the Summit, Paul Ferley (Royal Bank of Canada’s Assistant Chief Economist) discussed the state of the Canadian economy and the role that skilled immigrants will play in the economic recovery. His talk was followed by a corporate panel discussion on the value of hiring and retaining skilled immigrants. Elena Cherney, from The Globe & Mail moderated this discussion featuring Diane Bean (Manulife Financial), Rob Brouwer (KPMG), Young Park (CGI), and John Tory (Former CEO of Rogers Media).
The following morning the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) announced Gordon M. Nixon (President and CEO of RBC), as Chair, and Zabeen Hirji (Chief Human Resources Officer of RBC), as Co-Chair of TRIEC. Gordon and Zabeen provided insights and advice on how they have furthered RBC competitiveness by hiring skilled immigrants. They also provided strategic advice to the other business leaders in the room as to how they can effect changes within their organization. Later, Paul Born (President, Tamarack ) facilitated a discussion on charting a course of action in their cities and assessing potential opportunities and challenges.
