DiverseCity Counts Report

Commissioned by DiverseCity, the first-ever study of diversity in leadership in the GTA was released last week by Ryerson University’s Diversity Institute. Assistant Professor Margaret Yap was a key researcher on the report.

Community Activist and School Board Trustee Neethan Shan has been involved with the recent protests concerning the war in Sri Lanka impacting over 300,000 Canadians who are of Tamil origin.

Luminato
From June 5-14 Toronto will experience Luminato Festival of Arts and Creativity, now in its third year. Devyani Saltzman, Curator of Literary Programming, is the creative force behind the literary course of the arts feast which features award winning authors, children’s literature, lunchtime conversations and much more.

Live-in Caregivers
Stefania Ntonas came to Canada five years ago as a live-in caregiver. After navigating her way through a complex system to become a permanent resident, she is now working at the Working Women Community centre.

Father’s Day (June 21)
With Father’s Day approaching, Brandon Hay, founder of the Black Daddies Club (BDC) has organized a Barbershop Forum on Sunday, June 14 featuring a screening of the Brazilian documentary Falcão -Meninos do Tráfico. Details about the event are available online. BDC was created as a space for Black men to discuss parenting issues as well as the issues facing the Black Community as a whole.
