Role Summary

We are seeking applicants who are guided by a deep commitment to the realization of economic and social rights in Canada. The Grants Administrator will work with people across our team to advance the organization’s mission, through its grants program.

Reporting to Maytree’s Director of Community Investment and Engagement, the successful candidate will work independently and collectively in support of the grants program and will provide a key point of contact for organizations and groups applying for funding. The Grants Administrator will manage communications related to funding inquiries and applications and maintain electronic records and paper filing.

This is a full-time position, located in Toronto.


  • Manage the day-to-day administration of Maytree’s granting process, including intake of funding requests, communications with prospective and existing grantees, and maintenance of grant files
  • Ensure that funding records are complete both in electronic form and paper files
  • Work with the Director of Community Investment and Engagement to identify funding opportunities that advance Maytree’s goals
  • Work with the Director of Community Investment and Engagement in assessing the eligibility of funding requests, including fielding phone and email inquiries, and engaging with prospective funding recipients on the development of their proposals
  • Manage working relationships with funding recipients for the duration of the agreements, including coordinating and participating in regular check-in and informal meetings, ensuring all reporting requirements are met, as well as participating in site visits and attending events where appropriate
  • Work across the Maytree team to provide ongoing support to funding recipients, including identifying their learning goals and opportunities that advance their work
  • Participate in strategic and operational meetings

Qualifications and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in office administration, including data management, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in granting processes, including developing grant requests and reporting, preferable
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with equity deserving groups, people with lived experience of poverty, grassroots groups, and community-based organizations in Toronto
  • Strong understanding of the non-profit sector, with a focus on efforts in Toronto
  • Understanding of a human rights-based approach and the advancement of economic and social rights in particular
  • Understanding of systemic issues that perpetuate poverty in Canada
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills that can contribute to reports, plans, and external communication materials     
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field or relevant experience

Salary range: $55,000-$65,000. Maytree offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental.

Start date: as soon as possible.

This is a hybrid position, with a balance between work from office (Bay St. and Bloor St.) and from home.
