Daniel Burns
Daniel Burns was a public servant for more than 30 years finishing in 2002. He held a variety of senior positions in the City of Toronto Planning Department and was the Commissioner of Housing for the City as well. From 1991 until 2002 he served as Deputy Minister in the Ontario Government, first at the Ministry of Housing, then at the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs, The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism and then at the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
Since leaving the public service he has advised a wide variety of organizations on matters of public policy and public administration, taught those subjects at universities and served as a board member of a number of organizations.
In addition to the Boards of a number of Crown Corporation and public sector boards that formed part of the responsibilities mentioned above he has also served on the Board of the United Way of Toronto, The national and local Boards of The Institute of Public Administration of Canada, The Board of Queen’s University, The Board of CAMH (The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), and the National Advisory Board of The Salvation Army in Canada. He is still a member of the Boards of the Canada Ireland Foundation and Maytree.
