David Allen is the former Executive Director of Volunteer Toronto, a registered charity that enables and celebrates volunteering in the City of Toronto by offering training in volunteer engagement to non-profit organizations and linking Torontonians to volunteer opportunities in those organizations. David joined Volunteer Toronto in January 2014 and retired in November 2017. He has over 25 years of experience in the non-profit sector at the executive level. Previous positions include the chief executive officer of the Federation of Ontario Public Libraries, Variety – The Children’s Charity and the Canadian Hearing Society. He also served as the Ontario healthcare practice leader at KPMG Management Consulting, after several years in hospital administration. David has been a committed volunteer for his entire adult life. He is a past Board Chair of the Mississauga-Halton Community Care Access Centre and Islington United Church. He also served on the Boards of the Applewood Centre for Adult Learning, Canadian Society of Association Executives – Trillium Chapter, and ARCH Legal Resource Centre for Persons with Disabilities. David is a professional engineer (P. Eng) and a certified healthcare executive (CHE).
