Sean Conway is a public policy adviser in Gowlings’ Toronto office, working with clients in the energy and natural resources sector. With his extensive experience in the public sector, Sean is available to advise Gowlings’ clients on a broad range of business and public policy issues. Before joining Gowlings, Sean served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for 28 years, from 1975 to 2003. He served in the cabinet of Premier David Peterson (1985-90), holding the positions of Minister of Education, Minister of Colleges and Universities, Minister of Mines and Government House Leader. He is a former energy critic for the Official Opposition and served on two Ontario Select Committees on Nuclear Affairs as well as serving on several legislative committees examining health care and constitutional reform. Sean acted as vice-principal (advancement) of Queen’s University from January 1 to December 31, 2009. He was also the special adviser for external relations to the Principal of Queen’s University from August 2006 until October 2010. Prior to becoming special adviser, he was the director of Queen’s Institute of Intergovernmental Relations. In addition to his work at Gowlings, Sean is a Visiting Fellow at the Ryerson University Center for Urban Energy and a regular panellist on radio and television.  He also served as the chair of the board of directors of the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE).
