Published on March 29, 2007
Workplace pension plans – often referred to in Canada as occupational, employer-sponsored or registered pension plans – play a key role in ensuring the financial security of Canadian seniors. This paper, one of a series that Caledon is publishing on pensions in Canada, examines the factors that have influenced the development of workplace pension plans. It includes a review of the literature and a discussion of the financing problems that many defined benefit pension plans have encountered in recent years.
