Engaging Students and Communities: Voices from Nova Scotia
Published on September 1, 2000
The Southwest Regional School Board in Nova Scotia has undertaken several initiatives to increase public involvement and support for publicly funded education. Two of these initiatives are highlighted in this story; one encourages teachers to develop programming which highlights local history and values, another involves citizens in promoting economic diversity and providing career opportunities for secondary students. A reminder that local solutions serve the needs of local people, this vibrant school district offers ideas for growth which can be applied to any jurisdiction.
