Lessons from Ontario: Michael Mendelson presenting to the Special Committee on Poverty in Prince Edward Island
On October 25, 2019, Maytree Fellow Michael Mendelson gave a presentation before the Special Committee on Poverty in Prince Edward Island. He discussed his paper “Lessons from Ontario’s Basic Income Pilot” ahead of PEI’s own upcoming basic income program.
Mr. Mendelson summarized his reasons for writing the paper and expressed his hope that committee members might find his research to be of interest: “The purpose of the paper [‘Lessons from Ontario’s Basic Income Pilot’] was to try and extract some of the lessons that could be learned from Ontario’s experience in setting up an experiment to hopefully provide some good ideas and some of the pitfalls to avoid for any jurisdiction that might be considering doing something similar. I hope that this might be very relevant for what your committee is undertaking.”
The presentation was followed by questions from committee members.
