REFLECT: The Power of Communication

REFLECT is an innovative process that was developed originally by the British nongovernmental organization ActionAid and its partners for use in adult literacy work in developing countries.  It has evolved into a powerful means of strengthening the voices of marginalized people and encouraging community learning and change in the North as well as the South.  Today, more than 350 organizations in 60 countries are using Reflect to address issues of communication, power and participation in a wide variety of circumstances.  This paper outlines the Reflect process and the philosophy behind it, and describes some of the ways it is being used, in industrialized as well as developing countries, to help build vibrant communities.
