The Social Economy in Quebec
Published on July 4, 1998
This story is an edited excerpt from a chapter in a forthcoming book by Eric Shragge entitled Social Economy: Critiques and Perspectives. The social economy in Québec is concerned fundamentally with economic democracy and the empowerment of indi-viduals and communities through economic develop-ment. The author describes the recent Economic Summits organized by the province and how those meetings gave rise to various task forces focussed on job creation and economic development. He presents the results of this activity, including the establishment of a Social Economy Development Fund and Local Development Centres.
