The Tisdale RECplex: (Almost) Everything Under One Roof
Published on April 1, 2000
In 1997, the town of Tisdale in northeastern Saskatchewan (population 3,500) opened a 100,000 square foot joint-use facility which houses an array of educational, recreational and cultural spaces. This massive project was initiated by the Tisdale School Division in partnership with the Town of Tisdale, Cumberland Regional College and the Pasquia Health District. The process employed to envision and design the facility serves as a model of community involvement and consensus-building. The RECplex is open from early morning to late evening, and serves as a community hub. Its existence and the model of collaboration that it represents have spawned new partnerships and programs.
