Maytree welcomes Elizabeth McIsaac as its new president
Maytree founders Judy and Alan Broadbent are pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth McIsaac as president and happy to welcome her back to the foundation. Starting October 27, 2014, Ms. McIsaac will lead the development and strengthening of Maytree’s anti-poverty and community-building work through its own activities and support of its community partners.
“The new appointment will mark Elizabeth’s return to Maytree,” said Mr. Broadbent. “She began with Maytree in 2001, and served in progressive roles from Manager of Research and Policy to Director of Policy. Elizabeth was also the Executive Director of one of Maytree’s signature ideas: the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) for five years. Elizabeth played an instrumental role in the development of TRIEC and in identifying and implementing practical solutions to create meaningful employment for skilled immigrants.”
“I’m very excited to be returning to Maytree,” said Ms. McIsaac. “My early experience at the Foundation and TRIEC provided me with a strong grounding in the value of partnerships and collaboration to make change. Returning with a clear evidenced-based perspective on the sector and a deeper understanding of the powerful potential of innovation and collaboration, I look forward to leading Maytree as it shapes its future agenda to address complex social issues.”
A seasoned not-for-profit executive, Ms. McIsaac has served in a wide diversity of roles within the sector, from the front line to senior leadership roles. Her most recent accomplishment was to establish and lead the not-for-profit sector research hub at the University of Toronto’s Mowat Centre. At Mowat, she created a new sector-specific body of cutting-edge research and analysis on the sector’s key challenges, including human capital renewal, building capacity, shared platforms and other issues. Her work has created opportunities to amplify and strengthen the work of the charitable sector.
Prior to 2001, Ms. McIsaac served as the Executive Director of the Association of International Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and held various roles in research and teaching. She currently serves as the vice-chair of the FCJ Refugee Centre’s board of directors.
