Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Public Policy Initiative

The Alberta government’s recently announced changes to the AISH program capped a four-year review of the province’s low income security programs. A public policy Roundtable was initiated by staff at the United Way of Calgary and Area in 2003 to influence the government’s policy changes to the AISH program and to build organizational capacity with respect to government relations. It succeeded on both counts.
This story is the third in a series which highlights the efforts of local partners involved in Vibrant Communities – a pan-Canadian initiative that seeks local solutions to reduce poverty and build more caring communities.
