Plain Talk: Not When Ottawa Has Its Way

This commentary considers how ‘newspeak’ has been used by governments to try to manipulate public perceptions of key social problems and issues.  People who are unemployed now are considered to be ‘adjusting or ‘in transition.’  The notion of the ‘active society’ implies that persons not working are responsible for their own joblessness.  The commentary raises questions about the federal intention to carry out a ‘review’ of social programs.
